Kaneland School District 302 is located west of the Fox River Valley, approximately 45 miles west of downtown Chicago. The district serves a large rural area that includes seven small communities: Sugar Grove, Elburn, Kaneville, Maple Park, North Aurora, Montgomery, and Virgil. District 302 serves 3912 students in grades K-12.
From the 20/21 until the 23/24 school year, Kaneland High School used Standards-Based learning and reporting. Faculty co-created standards as well as success criteria for each standard. Transcripts were created by converting standards-based grades into a traditional letter grade with an established G.P.A. value. Beginning with the 24/25 school year standards-based grading was discontinued, and KHS returned to a traditional grading policy whereby students' final grades are assessed from seventy percent formative work, twenty percent summative work, and ten percent a final exam.
